School Rule -Be Really Safe

We took photos of students modeling really safe playground rules. We also know that safe kids walk in the school, keep hands and feet to themselves at all times, stay in their seats in the lunchroom, do not share food, and follow adult directions right now.

Teddy Bear Day

Thank you, families, for helping us pack our teddies/buddies for our special day! Each child used his stuffed animal for the math activities shown below, shared it for Show and Tell, and enjoyed teaching his furry friend the school rules!

We had a fabulous time going on a bear hunt as we hiked to some trees near the practice field for our teddy bear picnic.

We even had story time and sang many bear songs while outside enjoying the beautiful weather.

We worked so hard sharing our paper bear projects with the class. We video taped this pre-writing activity in order to get our ideas to write during writer's workshop. You can view your child's short video by visiting my You Tube account by clicking on this link: Teddy Bear Videos

Thank you very much for creating the projects at home which inspired our writing and created a nice bulletin board display. The children are very proud of their work.

Miss Master's helped us review her sorting lessons. We sorted our animals by color and counted the sets. We sorted by size while creating a real graph. We compared the sets using our math vocabulary greater and fewer. We even sorted our animals by shape since we had a few non-bears.

We also used our stuffed animals to practice our positional words: in front of, behind, above, below, beside, between.

Kindergarten Friendship

We took a group picture on Tuesday of Miss Master's last week. We love recess!

We have had five weeks of school and we have become a true "Circle of Friends" who treat one another with respect and love.

Remaining Leadership Lessons and The Fantastic Fun Run!

Not only did we enjoy the Fun Run on Friday, but we showed great stamina and perseverance! Thank you so much for all of your support collecting pledges and donations. Your child brought home his/her shirt with the number of laps recorded on the back and a collection envelope on Friday for you to place any checks or cash donations. Please put the envelope in your child's yellow folder any day you have a collection. I will then turn it into the office. If you did everything online, then you will not need to use the envelope. Thanks again for your help with our fundraiser.

Our lessons this past week finished our leadership training. APEX taught us to be Teachable, to Empathize, and to Do Our Best.

APEX Rally and Lessons

Please remember you can still send in your child's pledges written on the form in the lanyard or you can log on and make your pledges on the website. Below you will see photos of our lessons in the classroom and of the rally.

So far we have learned about the UNI in the word UNITE.
U is for unique.
N is for no excuses.
I is for inspire others.

Your child should be bringing home a bracelet each day with the lesson words. We are learning to become good leaders.

Be Ready to Learn

The students are actively engaged as our UCM student, Miss Masters, reads The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. Each student is showing they are ready to learn by looking at the text, staying quiet, and participating during the repetitive pattern.

Our helpers for the day are acting out the story as it is being read aloud. Braylee is feeding the little old lady the animal as Wesley is finding the word to match the picture to place in the sentence on the wall. One of our skills that we are working on in reading is retelling the story in the correct order. We know to tell the story from the beginning to the end. Your child should have brought home a smaller version of the old lady and the animal characters to practice his/her retelling skills. We have reminded the children to use story telling language by retelling in complete sentences instead of just naming the characters. This practice will help your child when he is reading the pictures in a book and when he is writing a story.
