Be Ready to Learn

The students are actively engaged as our UCM student, Miss Masters, reads The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. Each student is showing they are ready to learn by looking at the text, staying quiet, and participating during the repetitive pattern.

Our helpers for the day are acting out the story as it is being read aloud. Braylee is feeding the little old lady the animal as Wesley is finding the word to match the picture to place in the sentence on the wall. One of our skills that we are working on in reading is retelling the story in the correct order. We know to tell the story from the beginning to the end. Your child should have brought home a smaller version of the old lady and the animal characters to practice his/her retelling skills. We have reminded the children to use story telling language by retelling in complete sentences instead of just naming the characters. This practice will help your child when he is reading the pictures in a book and when he is writing a story.
